The matter pertains to brawl that had taken place in Panchkula on August 24 between relatives of Yograj Singh and the family of a Panchkula-based retired DSP and his sons. The matter reached the HC through a petition filed by Yograj's cousin, Kuljit Kaur, stating that she along with her daughter Tanya Kaur were molested by the retired DSP and his two lawyer sons. While referring to some Supreme Court guidelines, the petitioner argued that it is mandatory for the police to register an FIR, on receipt of information disclosing a cognizable offence.
Petitioner has also argued that despite several complaints, Panchkula police has not taken any cognizance and were harassing the women complainants.
The petitioner has also sought directions from the HC to transfer the investigation as well as the trial of all the cases related to the incident to Mohali. It has also been alleged in the petition that daughter of retired DSP is an IPS officer and that is why the Panchkula cops are not taking any action against the retired DSP and his sons. A magisterial probe, especially a women magistrate, has also been sought by the petitioner. We have also requested to appoint a lady Magistrate to hold the Magistrate enquiry too", added Advocate Puneet Bali.
